Allah has 99 beautiful names — Al-Asmā' Al-Ḥusnā. Each name is a window into His infinite perfection. Learning them is an act of worship, a path to closeness with the Most High.
The Prophet ﷺ said: "Allah has ninety-nine names. Whoever memorises them will enter Paradise." (Bukhari & Muslim). But memorisation is just the beginning — understanding the meaning of each Name transforms how you see Allah, how you make du'a, and how you understand the Quran.
The One Whose essence is pure and absolutely perfect. Glorious, dignified, majestic, bountiful and exceedingly generous.
His glory flows from the perfection of His attributes. There is no glory like His, and nothing can ever diminish it.
"Lord of the Glorious Throne."
Surah Al-Buruj 85:15
The Prophet ﷺ said in ruku': "سُبْحَانَ رَبِّيَ الْعَظِيمِ" — "Glory be to my Lord, the Most Magnificent." Glorifying His majesty was the heart of every prayer.
Sahih Muslim 772
The Trustee, The Disposer of Affairs. The Only One Who takes charge of the affairs of those under His care, managing all matters as He pleases.
When you entrust your affairs to Al-Wakīl, you place them in the most capable, most knowing and most caring of hands. True tawakkul begins here.
"And put your trust in Allah — sufficient is Allah as a Disposer of Affairs."
Surah Al-Ahzab 33:3
When Ibrahim ؑ was thrown into the fire, he said: "حَسْبُنَا اللَّهُ وَنِعْمَ الْوَكِيلُ" — "Allah is sufficient for us, and He is the best Disposer of Affairs." The Prophet ﷺ spoke the same words at the Battle of Uhud.
Sahih al-Bukhari 4563
The Resurrector, The Awakener. The One Who chooses who will be awakened and sent forth. The giver of life who sends light into the world.
He who raised the dead through His prophets will raise all of mankind on the Day of Resurrection. Nothing escapes His power to restore.
"And that Allah will resurrect those in the graves."
Surah Al-Hajj 22:7
The Prophet ﷺ taught the du'a upon waking: "اَلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَحْيَانَا بَعْدَ مَا أَمَاتَنَا" — "All praise is for Allah who gave us life after death." Every morning is a taste of Al-Bāʿith's power.
Sahih al-Bukhari 6312
The All-Strong, The Supremely Strong. The Only One Whose strength is unlimited and inexhaustible. He affects everything yet nothing can affect Him.
Al-Qawiyy does not grow weary. His power never diminishes. The mountains tremble at His command, yet He is closer to you than your jugular vein.
"Indeed, Allah is All-Strong, All-Mighty."
Surah Al-Hajj 22:74
The Prophet ﷺ said: "The strong believer is more beloved to Allah than the weak believer, while there is goodness in both." True strength begins with drawing on the strength of Al-Qawiyy.
Sahih Muslim 2664
The Most Generous, The Gracious, The Beneficent. Whose kindness knows no bounds and continually gives precious gifts to whomever He wills.
His generosity is unconditional — He gives to the believer and the disbeliever alike. His gifts are without limit and never run dry.
"O mankind, what has deceived you concerning your Lord, the Most Generous?"
Surah Al-Infitar 82:6
The Prophet ﷺ said: "Indeed Allah is generous and loves generosity, and He loves noble character and detests ignoble character." Generosity in us is a reflection of His name Al-Karīm.
Al-Bayhaqi, Shu'ab al-Iman
The All-Encompassing, The All-Sufficient, The Boundless, The Vast. Beyond any limits in essence, with boundless capacities and nothing is beyond Him.
His mercy encompasses all things. His knowledge encompasses all things. He is never constrained by time, space, or circumstance.
"And Allah is All-Encompassing and All-Knowing."
Surah Al-Baqarah 2:115
The Prophet ﷺ said: "Allah's mercy overcomes His wrath." His mercy is so vast it stretches across all of creation — past, present and future — without diminishing.
Sahih al-Bukhari 7553
The All-Wise, The Most Judicious. Who possesses perfect discrimination between right and wrong and is free from all error or misunderstanding.
Every decree of Al-Ḥakīm contains wisdom — even when we cannot perceive it. Nothing He ordains is without perfect purpose.
"And He is the Almighty, the All-Wise."
Surah Ibrahim 14:4
The Prophet ﷺ said: "How wonderful is the affair of the believer! His entire affair is good. If something good befalls him he is thankful, and if something bad befalls him he is patient." This contentment is the fruit of knowing Al-Ḥakīm.
Sahih Muslim 2999
The Responsive One. The One Who answers prayers, responds to needs, and penetrates through every obstacle in order to respond.
No sincere du'a is ever lost. Al-Mujīb hears every whisper of the heart before the lips even move — He responds always, sometimes in ways beyond our understanding.
"When My servants ask you about Me — I am near. I respond to the call of the caller when he calls upon Me."
Surah Al-Baqarah 2:186
The Prophet ﷺ said: "Your Lord is Generous and Modest. When a servant raises his hands to Him, He is ashamed to return them empty." Al-Mujīb never leaves a hand raised in prayer unrewarded.
Abu Dawud 1488
The Most Loving. The source of all affection, love and kindness. Faithful to His servants and shows them the purest love.
Al-Wadūd does not merely tolerate His servants — He loves them. His love is not earned by perfection but gifted to those who turn to Him with sincerity.
"And He is the All-Forgiving, the Most Loving."
Surah Al-Buruj 85:14
The Prophet ﷺ said: "When Allah loves a servant He calls Jibrīl and says: 'I love so-and-so, so love him.' Then Jibrīl loves him, and calls out to the people of the heavens..." Al-Wadūd's love ripples across the entire creation.
Sahih al-Bukhari 3209
The All-Great. Whose rank, nobility, knowledge and mercy is unimaginably great and perfect — nothing was, is or will ever be like Him.
Allahu Akbar — Allah is Greater. Greater than every hardship, every fear, every difficulty. His greatness is the very foundation of our confidence in Him.
"Knower of the unseen and the witnessed, the All-Great, the Most Exalted."
Surah Ar-Ra'd 13:9
The Prophet ﷺ said: "The most beloved words to Allah are four: SubhanAllah, Alhamdulillah, La ilaha illallah, and Allahu Akbar." The declaration of His greatness — Allahu Akbar — is rooted directly in the name Al-Kabīr.
Sahih Muslim 2137
The All-Sustainer, The All-Nourisher, The Preserver. The powerful maintainer who sustains, nourishes, protects and oversees all that exists.
Not a single leaf falls without Al-Muqīt providing for it. He nourishes the body, the soul, and the spirit — nothing sustains itself.
"And Allah is over all things, a Keeper and Sustainer."
Surah An-Nisa 4:85
The Prophet ﷺ said: "Seek sustenance through sadaqah." Giving in charity opens the doors of Al-Muqīt — the One Who sustains all, and multiplies provision for those who give.
Al-Bayhaqi, Shu'ab al-Iman
The Watchful, The All-Observing. The All-and-Ever-Watchful, observing everyone's actions, thoughts, deeds and feelings — nothing is hidden from Him.
The awareness of Al-Raqīb is the greatest guardian of the heart. When we remember He sees all, we guard our deeds, words, and innermost thoughts.
"Indeed, Allah is ever, over you, a Watcher."
Surah An-Nisa 4:1
Jibrīl ؑ asked: "What is ihsan?" The Prophet ﷺ replied: "That you worship Allah as though you see Him, for even if you do not see Him, He sees you." This is the lived reality of knowing Al-Raqīb.
Sahih Muslim 8
The All-Forgiving, The One Who forgives abundantly. The perfection of forgiveness — He forgives regardless of how large the sin is.
Al-Ghafūr covers, conceals and erases sin — as if it never existed. No sin is too great when the servant returns in sincere repentance.
"Say: O My servants who have transgressed — do not despair of Allah's mercy. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins."
Surah Az-Zumar 39:53
The Prophet ﷺ said: "Allah stretches out His hand at night to accept the repentance of the one who sinned during the day, and stretches it out by day for the one who sinned at night." Al-Ghafūr's door never closes.
Sahih Muslim 2759
The Reckoner, The Accountant, The One Who Suffices. He keeps perfect account of everything and requites even the smallest of deeds.
Al-Ḥasīb is fully sufficient for us in every need. He keeps a perfect account — every atom's weight of good or evil is recorded and will be recompensed.
"And sufficient is Allah as an Accountant."
Surah An-Nisa 4:6
The Prophet ﷺ said: "Reckon yourselves before you are reckoned, and weigh your deeds before they are weighed." Knowing Al-Ḥasīb inspires us to hold ourselves to account before the final reckoning.
Tirmidhi 2459
The Majestic. Great and above all in rank and dignity — His greatness and majesty are immeasurable and cannot be comprehended by the senses.
Al-Jalīl inspires awe and reverence. His majesty surpasses human comprehension — we can only glimpse it through His creation and His words.
"And there will remain the Face of your Lord — Owner of Majesty and Honour."
Surah Ar-Rahman 55:27
The Prophet ﷺ encouraged repeating: "يَا ذَا الْجَلَالِ وَالْإِكْرَامِ" — "O Owner of Majesty and Honour" — saying: "Persist with this." It is among the greatest of Allah's names in the Quran.
Tirmidhi 3524
The Most Appreciative, The Most Grateful, The Rewarder of Good Works. Gives large rewards even for a small amount of good work done sincerely.
Al-Shakūr multiplies the reward of even the smallest sincere act. No effort made for His sake goes unrecognised — He repays a seed with an orchard.
"Indeed, Allah is All-Forgiving and Most Appreciative."
Surah Fatir 35:30
The Prophet ﷺ said: "Whoever does a good deed, Allah will reward him ten times its like or more." Al-Shakūr never lets sincerity go to waste.
Sahih Muslim 129
The All-Preserver, The All-Protecting. Whose power preserves the heavens and the earth — the guardian and preserver of all the worlds.
Al-Ḥafīẓ guards His creation from destruction and keeps the perfect record of all deeds. He who memorises His Book is specially honoured in His protection.
"And your Lord is, over all things, a Guardian."
Surah Saba 34:21
The Prophet ﷺ taught: "بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الَّذِي لَا يَضُرُّ مَعَ اسْمِهِ شَيْءٌ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَلَا فِي السَّمَاءِ" — "In the name of Allah, with Whose name nothing in earth or sky can harm." Invoking Him is invoking Al-Ḥafīẓ.
Abu Dawud 5088
The Judge, The Giver of Justice. His judgment, once rendered, cannot be thwarted. He always delivers justly and never makes a mistake.
Every injustice suffered in this world will be addressed before Al-Ḥakam. His court is the only one where no truth is hidden and no verdict is unjust.
"Then is it other than Allah I should seek as judge, while it is He Who has revealed to you the Book explained in detail?"
Surah Al-An'am 6:114
The Prophet ﷺ said: "Verily, Allah does not sleep. He lowers the scale and raises it. The deeds of the night are raised to Him before those of the day." Al-Ḥakam's judgment is continuous, precise, and never incomplete.
Sahih Muslim 179
The Most High, The Exalted. Above any imperfections — there is nothing higher than Him and our intellect is incapable of conceiving His perfection.
Al-ʿAliyy is high in His essence, high in His attributes and high in His authority. To know Him is to be humbled; to love Him is to be elevated.
"And He is the Most High, the Most Grand."
Surah Al-Baqarah 2:255 (Ayat al-Kursi)
The Prophet ﷺ said in sujud: "سُبْحَانَ رَبِّيَ الْأَعْلَى" — "Glory be to my Lord, the Most High." Prostrating to Al-ʿAliyy while placing one's face on the ground is the highest act of worship.
Abu Dawud 869
The Most Subtle, The Most Gentle, The Gracious. Whose nature is gentle, affectionate, courteous and refined — reaching the most hidden places with kindness.
Al-Laṭīf provides through means we could never anticipate, in ways too subtle for the eye to see. His gentleness is everywhere once you learn to look.
"Indeed, Allah is Subtle with His servants; He gives provision to whom He wills."
Surah Ash-Shura 42:19
Anas ibn Malik ؓ said: "I never touched silk softer than the palm of the Prophet ﷺ, and never smelled musk more fragrant than him." The Messenger of Al-Laṭīf embodied His gentleness in every detail.
Sahih al-Bukhari 3561
The Magnificent One, The Great One. The One Who is greatest, mightiest, grandest and above all. He is the owner of all power, might, and strength.
His magnificence is beyond any scale of measurement. The heavens and earth and all they contain cannot contain even a reflection of His true greatness.
"And He is the Most High, the Most Magnificent."
Surah Al-Baqarah 2:255 (Ayat al-Kursi)
The Prophet ﷺ said: "Two words are light on the tongue, heavy on the Scale, and beloved to Al-Rahman: SubhanAllahi wa bihamdihi, SubhanAllahil-ʿAẓīm." — "Glory be to Allah the Most Magnificent."
Sahih al-Bukhari 6682
The All-Seeing. The One Who sees all things by His Eternal Seeing without a pupil or any other instrument — there is nothing hidden from His sight.
Al-Baṣīr sees the black ant on a black rock in the darkness of the night. No deed done in secret, no tear shed in private, escapes His perfect sight.
"Indeed, Allah is ever All-Hearing and All-Seeing."
Surah An-Nisa 4:58
ʿAisha ؓ said: "Blessed is the One Whose hearing encompasses all voices. Khawlah came to the Prophet ﷺ complaining about her husband, and Allah heard her from above the seven heavens." Al-Baṣīr sees every grievance.
Sahih al-Bukhari, commentary on Surah Al-Mujadila
The Acquainted, The All-Aware. His knowledge is comprehensive — He understands the most hidden secrets and knows the qualities and meanings of all things.
Al-Khabīr knows not just what happens, but why — the inner motives, the hidden causes, the spiritual realities beneath the surface of all things.
"Does He who created not know, while He is the Most Subtle, the All-Aware?"
Surah Al-Mulk 67:14
The Prophet ﷺ said: "Verily Allah does not look at your bodies or your appearances, but He looks at your hearts and your deeds." Al-Khabīr knows what lies within, not just what is shown without.
Sahih Muslim 2564
The Equitable, The Just. The One who rectifies and sets matters straight in a fair, impartial, equitable manner and Who delivers absolute justice.
Al-ʿAdl is justice itself — not merely one who acts justly, but One whose very essence is the perfection of equity. Every soul will receive exactly what it deserves.
"Indeed, Allah commands justice and the doing of good."
Surah An-Nahl 16:90
The Prophet ﷺ said: "Allah said: 'O My servants, I have forbidden oppression for Myself and have made it forbidden amongst you, so do not oppress one another.'" Al-ʿAdl holds Himself to the standard of perfect justice.
Sahih Muslim 2577 (Hadith Qudsi)
The Most Forbearing, The Most Kind and Gentle. The One who keeps on bestowing blessings, both visible and hidden, even though we disobey Him.
Al-Ḥalīm witnesses every sin and transgression yet does not rush to punish. His forbearance is not weakness — it is infinite mercy giving us time to return.
"And know that Allah is All-Forgiving and Most Forbearing."
Surah Al-Baqarah 2:235
The Prophet ﷺ said: "No one is more patient with harmful words than Allah. They ascribe a son to Him, yet He gives them health and provision." Al-Ḥalīm's patience surpasses all comprehension.
Sahih al-Bukhari 6099
The Reducer. The One who decides which ones to weaken or diminish. The One who humbles the proud, haughty or insolent, to awaken them from their sleep.
Al-Khāfiḍ lowers whoever He wills — nations, kings, and the arrogant — to remind all of creation that true power belongs to Him alone.
"It will bring down some and raise up others."
Surah Al-Waqi'ah 56:3
The Prophet ﷺ said: "Whoever humbles himself before Allah, Allah will raise him." The flip side of Al-Khāfiḍ is Al-Rāfiʿ — He who lowers the proud also exalts the humble.
Sahih Muslim 2588
The All-Hearing, The Ever-Listening. He hears every word, thought and secret. He perfectly and eternally listens to everything, without any limits.
Al-Samīʿ hears the du'a whispered in the heart before it reaches the lips. Every cry for help, every silent prayer, is fully heard — none is too small or too distant.
"Indeed Allah has heard the speech of the one who argues with you concerning her husband."
Surah Al-Mujadila 58:1
The Prophet ﷺ told his companions: "Lower your voices, for you are not calling upon one who is deaf or absent. You are calling upon the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing, who is closer to you than the neck of your riding animal."
Sahih al-Bukhari 6384
The Dishonorer, The Humiliator. The One whose wisdom creates situations that are low and despicable, Who creates the appearance of dishonor or degradation.
Al-Mudhil humiliates those who are arrogant before Allah, or who oppress others. True honour comes only from obedience to Him; dishonour comes from turning away.
"Say: O Allah, Owner of sovereignty — You give honour to whom You will and You humble whom You will."
Surah Al-Imran 3:26
The Prophet ﷺ said: "Whoever seeks honour through disobedience to Allah, Allah will humiliate him." Al-Mudhil reminds us that honour is only in His obedience.
Ahmad, Musnad
The Exalter, The Elevator, The Raiser. The One who raises whoever He wills — choosing who will be raised in rank in every way.
Al-Rāfiʿ raises the believer in the dunya and the akhirah — in rank, in honour, in closeness to Him. No worldly force can stop what He has decided to elevate.
"Allah will raise those who have believed among you and those who were given knowledge, by degrees."
Surah Al-Mujadila 58:11
The Prophet ﷺ said: "Whoever humbles himself for the sake of Allah, Allah will raise him." Al-Rāfiʿ's elevation is given to the humble, not the proud.
Sahih Muslim 2588
The Honorer, The Bestower of Might. The One who gives invincible strength and honour — bestowing strength and honour to His obedient and loving servants.
True honour — ʿizzah — belongs only to Allah. He grants it to whom He wills among His servants. No title or rank bestowed by people compares to the honour He gives the believer.
"Whoever desires honour — then to Allah belongs all honour."
Surah Fatir 35:10
ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb ؓ said: "We were the most humiliated of people, then Allah honoured us with Islam. If we seek honour in other than what Allah honoured us with, He will humiliate us." Al-Muʿizz honours through His deen.
Al-Mustadrak, Al-Hakim
The Provider, The Bestower of Sustenance. The One who creates all means of nourishment and provision and provides all of His creation with sustenance.
Al-Razzāq provides for the believer and the disbeliever, the bird and the worm, the fish in the depths of the ocean. Rizq is guaranteed — only its form varies.
"Indeed, it is Allah Who is the Provider, Possessor of Firm Strength."
Surah Adh-Dhariyat 51:58
The Prophet ﷺ said: "If you were to rely upon Allah with true reliance, He would provide for you as He provides for the birds — they go out hungry in the morning and return full in the evening." Al-Razzāq never forgets any of His creation.
Tirmidhi 2344
The Constrictor, The Withholder, The Restrainer. The One whose wisdom decides when to withhold something, or make something scarce.
Al-Qābiḍ withholds only out of wisdom, not neglect. The tightening of provision, or the narrowing of circumstances, is always in service of a greater purpose.
"And Allah restricts and extends, and to Him you will be returned."
Surah Al-Baqarah 2:245
The Prophet ﷺ said: "Allah is the one who sets prices — He constricts and extends. I hope to meet Allah without any of you having a claim against me for injustice in blood or wealth." Al-Qābiḍ alone controls economic destiny.
Abu Dawud 3451
The Great Giver, The Giver of Gifts. He gives gifts constantly, generously and endlessly upon His whole creation without expecting anything in return.
Al-Wahhāb gives without condition, without cause, and without end. His gifts are not earned — they are bestowed purely from His overflowing generosity and love.
"Our Lord, do not let our hearts deviate after You have guided us, and grant us from Yourself mercy. Indeed You are the Bestower."
Surah Al-Imran 3:8
Sulayman ؑ prayed: "My Lord, forgive me and grant me a kingdom such as will not belong to anyone after me. Indeed, You are the Bestower." Al-Wahhāb gives gifts no one else can — even kingdoms at a prophet's request.
Quran 38:35 (Sulayman's du'a)
The All-Knowing, The Omniscient One. The One who comprehends everything — intuitively aware of all things, even before they happen.
Al-ʿAlīm's knowledge has no beginning and no end. He knows what was, what is, what will be, and what would have been had it been otherwise.
"And with Him are the keys of the unseen — none knows them except Him."
Surah Al-An'am 6:59
The Prophet ﷺ said: "The keys of the unseen are five — none knows them except Allah: He alone knows what is in the womb, what will happen tomorrow, when the Hour will come, when it will rain, and where a person will die." Al-ʿAlīm's exclusive knowledge is absolute.
Sahih al-Bukhari 4697
The Subduer, The Ever-Dominating. The One who prevails over all and to whom all creatures surrender. He dominates the whole universe.
Al-Qahhār's dominion is total and uncontested. Every force in the universe — physical, spiritual, cosmic — is subdued before His will. Nothing resists Him.
"Say: Allah is the Creator of all things, and He is the One, the All-Subduer."
Surah Ar-Ra'd 13:16
The Prophet ﷺ said: "Allah will fold the heavens on the Day of Judgment, then He will take them in His right hand and say: 'I am the King! Where are the tyrants? Where are the arrogant?'" Al-Qahhār's full dominion will be manifest on that Day.
Sahih al-Bukhari 7382
The Opener, The Granter of Success. The One who opens the hearts of His servants and holds the keys to success in this world and the hereafter.
Al-Fattāḥ opens closed doors, removes obstacles, and unlocks hearts. What He opens, no one can shut. What He shuts, no one can open.
"Whatever Allah grants to people of mercy — none can withhold it."
Surah Fatir 35:2
Surah Al-Fath (The Opening) was revealed after the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah — an apparent setback that Al-Fattāḥ turned into the greatest opening for Islam. The Prophet ﷺ said it was "more beloved to me than all the dunya."
Sahih al-Bukhari 4177
The Extender, The One who amplifies all abundance. He makes the way wide open — expanding and widening the hearts and souls, giving sustenance in His generosity.
Al-Bāsiṭ stretches out His hand to give — expanding provision, expanding hearts, expanding ease. After every constriction (Al-Qābiḍ) comes His beautiful expansion.
"And Allah restricts and extends, and to Him you will be returned."
Surah Al-Baqarah 2:245
The Prophet ﷺ said: "Allah extends His hand during the night so those who sinned by day may repent, and extends His hand during the day so those who sinned by night may repent." Al-Bāsiṭ's hand of mercy is always outstretched.
Sahih Muslim 2759
The Originator, The Maker who creates form out of nothing — manifesting His creations in perfect harmony and in perfect proportions without any faults.
Al-Bāriʾ brings into existence what had no prior existence, shaping each created thing with a perfection that reveals His infinite knowledge and care.
"He is Allah, the Creator, the Originator, the Fashioner."
Surah Al-Hashr 59:24
The Prophet ﷺ said: "Allah created Adam in His image, sixty cubits tall." Al-Bāriʾ created the very first human being from nothing — setting the template for all human dignity and honour.
Sahih al-Bukhari 6227
The Fashioner, The Bestower of Forms. Who forms and shapes all that exists — despite the great variety of His creation, every single creature is unique.
Al-Muṣawwir gave every face its own form, every voice its own sound, every fingerprint its own pattern. In billions of humans, no two are identical — such is His artistry.
"It is He who forms you in the wombs however He wills."
Surah Al-Imran 3:6
The Prophet ﷺ said: "When the drop of fluid remains in the womb for forty-two nights, Allah sends an angel to give it form, to create its hearing, sight, skin, flesh and bones." Al-Muṣawwir's artistry begins before birth.
Sahih Muslim 2645
The Forgiving, The Exceedingly and Perfectly Forgiving. The One Who forgives any sin, small or big, of His worshippers over and over again.
Al-Ghaffār differs from Al-Ghafūr by emphasis on repetition — He forgives the same servant again and again, without tiring, without limit, as long as the servant keeps returning.
"Indeed, He is ever Most Forgiving."
Surah Nuh 71:10
The Prophet ﷺ said: "If you were to commit sins until your sins reached the heaven, then you sought forgiveness from Allah, He would forgive you." Al-Ghaffār's forgiveness is bigger than any sin, however many times it is committed.
